Virtual Godfather – Home of Wiseguy Wisdom

What’s a Virtual Godfather, You Ask?

Well, in “old country” Italian culture, your Godfather is someone who watches out for you and who protects you. A Godfather gives you good advice, guides you and helps make your problems go away. So a “Virtual Godfather” is the online version of the same thing – Someone to help and support you!

Lou Bortone is the “Virtual Godfather” and the author of “Wiseguy Wisdom: Success Secrets and Street Smarts from Godfathers to Goodfellas.” In the book, Lou shares dozens of “power proverbs” and success tips from your favorite Wiseguys - both real and fictional.

35 years later, The Godfather still rules!

⊆ February 6th, 2008 by Lou Bortone | ˜ No Comments »

Did you catch one of the most creative and amusing gazillion dollar TV commercials during the Super Bowl?  It might have looked a bit familiar, since it was a direct takeoff and parody on one of the most famous movie scenes in film history, “the horses head” scene from The Godfather.

The TV commercial follows the famous scene frame by frame, as we see an old man awakening to find something in his bed.  But, surprise, it’s not a bloody horse head, but the grille from his Rolls Royce.  He screams in horror as we see the “new” car parked out in front of his estate.

Just one problem, I can’t remember the car or carmaker who created the TV spot!  Sometimes you can lose the message in the creativity!   Remember, it’s not creative unless it SELLS!

Trivia note:  The actor playing the old movie mogul character in the TV commercial was none other than Alex Rocco, the actor who played casino mogul Moe Greene!  I love the irony!
